Katie started working on the line two years ago with Jeanne Yang, her stylist and friend. The two partners first had the idea for the label while going through Katie’s own closet four years ago as they both agreed that women, like men, needed wardrobe staple-based uniforms for everyday wear. The collection includes basics like blouses, trousers, jumpsuits, skirts, and cocktail dresses that retail on a high end ($945 for a blouse, for example). It is common for pricy celebrity fashion lines to flop, but maybe she will take after her friend Victoria Beckham who has a very successful high-end clothing line. Holmes’ high-end line features pieces for women and children (maybe Suri had a hand in the children’s pieces). Mrs. Cruise is her own best advertisement by wearing pieces such as a steely Prussian blue fitted dress to high-profile events.
I give this line a rating of 4 crowns. Katie Holmes was smart in partnering with a stylist, but the price point is not for everybody. So far Katie’s fashion line is doing better than her acting career. Maybe she should consider making this a permanent career change.
